Tour Highlights:
Although small in size, Lansdowne offers a surprisingly mixed natural beauty, history and peace. Our 3 days/ 2 nights Lansdowne tour itinerary is carefully designed to give you the best of both sightseeing and downtime. Here is a taste of what you will experience:
- Tip N Top: Also known as Tiffin Top, it is a must-visit viewpoint that offers panoramic views of the Garhwal Himalayas and valleys. Enjoy sunrise and sunset and feel the wind wrap around you while clouds drift lazily beneath. Located at a height of 1,700 m, this viewpoint is named after the British painter, Dorothy Kellet, who often visited here for his painting inspiration.
- Tarkeshwar Mahadev Temple: Surrounded by towering cedar and pine trees, this centuries-old temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Built in 1729 by Raja Bharamalla, this temple is peaceful and mystical. It is a little outside the main town, but absolutely worth the drive. It is believed that demon Tarakasur meditated here to gain immortality. Lord Shiva booned him with a condition that only his son could kill him. When Kartikeya killed him, Tarakasur sought forgiveness from Lord Shiva. In response, Shiva attached his name to the temple.
- St. John’s Church: St. John’s Church is a beautiful 19th-century Anglican Church with stained-glass windows and a colonial charm. It is as quiet as it is photogenic and still echoes with the calm of a different era. This British Gothic-style church is located on the Tip-n-Top and is considered a historic place where visitors spend a few hours relaxing in the blissful space.
- Bhulla Tal: It is a man-made duck-shaped lake managed by the Indian Army, perfect for boating, paddle boating, and feeding ducks. This lake is a testament to the Garhwal Rifles’ dedication to the region and the young soldiers. It features fountains, a children’s park, and bamboo machans, making it an ideal spot for a picnic amidst a tranquil setting.
- Garhwal Rifles Regimental War Memorial: Lansdowne is home to the brave Garhwal Rifles and their War Memorial stands as a proud tribute to their sacrifices in various conflicts, including both World Wars and post-independence operations.. A visit here is a dose of history and pride. Established in 1923, this memorial is located on the Lansdowne Parade Ground on top of a hill. It features a long “wall of fame” displaying the names of soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country.
