Overview
The cultural richness and dramatic geography of Ladakh meet in this nine-day excursion that pays major focus to ancient Buddhist monasteries while covering the classic high-altitude destinations. The 9 Days Leh, Monastery, Nubra valley, Turtuk, Pangong Lake Tour Package is unique in its own way with its detailed tour of monasteries and introduction of Aryan Valley in its program, which is a region that does not show much on the traditional Ladakh tourist itineraries.
It starts with Leh acclimatization to include the sunset vistas of Shanti Stupa, the ancient Leh Palace with its panoramic views, and the local market with traditional craft and daily life intersecting. The second day of the tour is dedicated to monasteries that takes one around to the most important of the Buddhist institutes in Ladakh. Big bronze statue of Buddha with peculiar blue hair is located in Shey Palace, which was the summer residence of pre- Tibetan kings.
Thiksey Gompa, which stands on a hilltop in a dramatic setting, offers an architectural masterpiece of sixteen centuries of monastic life. The largest and most prosperous complex of monasteries is Hemis monastery, located five kilometers away from Kharu.
The road passes through Khardung La at 18,300 feet, which is one of the highest motorable road points in the world. The river drops into Nubra valley, where one can see what is called the Valley of Flowers, albeit in a cold desert nature making the scenery very different compared to the alpine meadows. The unique dunes of Hunder have added attraction of camel safari using the descendants of ancient Silk Route caravans, against the snow- capped backdrops.
The Turtuk tour is an excellent source of cultural knowledge. This settlement, which was opened as a tourist site in 2010, was annexed by India after the war of 1971, and represents one of the few Balti villages within India which is located right alongside the LOC. The village still has cultural links to Pakistan, and Muslim residents maintain the old customs, such as the utilization of stone-made utensils. The Shyok Valley has a view of the adjacent mountains, and on clear days, the K2 Mountain top can be seen across the Pakistani border.
The road to the Pangong Lake uses the Shayok route, visiting Disket Monastery before the road crosses the Tangtse and traces the Shyok river in the mountainous terrain to reach the shores of Pangong at Spangmik. The lake is known for its changing colors, and this generates visual effects during the day. The way back through Changla pass offers views of the mountainous surroundings and then to Leh.
The DhaHanu section takes travelers to Aryan Valley, which is reachable by taking the Leh-Srinagar highway to Khaltse and then along the coast of the Indus River to Achinathang. This road leads to the village of Beema, where one can stay in village-based camps or a homestay, and therefore connect with the people of the Aryan race directly. This remote group maintains an Indo-Aryan culture that is distinct from its surrounding Tibetan Buddhist culture with unique traditions, customs, agricultural practices, and social arrangements.
The trip back also covers Sangam where Indus and Zanskar rivers meet in clear contrasts of colors, Magnetic Hill, where optical illusions of gravity can be seen, Guruduwara Pathar Sahib, where Guru Nanak paid his visit to Ladakh and Hall of Fame that pays tribute to the sacrifice of the military.
This nine-day format allows space to explore both monastery immersion and different geographical locations. Through millennium-old Buddhist monasteries to remote villages on the border, untouched lakes to distinct cultural groups, the itinerary not only reflects the complexity of Ladakh but also provides the right amount of acclimatization.
