Overview
Meghalaya, which means “abode of clouds,” is characterized by its misty hills, untouched waterfalls, and living root bridges. This 6 Days Shillong Dawki Cherrapunji Meghalaya Tour Package is a combination of the most fascinating places in Northeast India, where you will find a blend of natural beauty and cultural richness in a thoughtfully planned tour which starts and ends from Guwahati.
The journey starts with a visit to Kamakhya Temple, one of the most revered Shakti Peethas in India and then to Shillong. Along the way, travellers stop at Umium Lake, a beautiful reservoir surrounded by lush green hills, where water sports activities can be done. Shillong, the capital of the state of Meghalaya, is the first base for explorations with its pleasant climate and colonial charm.
Day two is the complete Shillong sightseeing that includes visiting the Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures, which has an extensive collection of Northeast Indian artifacts and cultural displays. The itinerary takes visitors to Shillong Peak to get panoramic views of the city and surrounding valleys, to Ward’s Lake to go for boating, and the Cathedral Catholic Church with its unique architecture. The highlight of the day is Laitlum Canyon, where there are breathtaking vistas of deep gorges and rolling hills stretching can be seen.
The third day brings two fantastic waterfalls, Phe Phe Falls and Krang Suri Falls, where the natural pools are for swimming in crystal-clear turquoise waters. The journey then continues to Dawki, which is a small town situated on the Indo-Bangladesh border known for the Umngot River. The transparent waters of the river give an illusion of boats floating in mid-air and is one of the most photographed places of Meghalaya.
Mawlynnong, Asia’s cleanest village, features on day four, Spotless pathways, Bamboo Dustbins and community-driven initiatives of cleanliness. The village is home to a Living Root Bridge, a marvel of bioengineering where tree roots have been trained over the generations to make a natural bridge across streams.
Cherrapunji, once the wettest place on Earth, dominates the day five with its collection of magnificent waterfalls and caves. Nohkalikai Falls falls down from a height, producing a mesmerizing sight, whereas the Seven Sisters Falls cascade down the cliff face in seven different streams. The Mawsmai Cave and Arwah Cave present the possibilities of seeing limestone formations and the Garden of Caves gives you insights into the geological history of the region.
The tour ends with a trip to Elephant Falls on the way back to Guwahati. This multi-tiered waterfall derives its name from an elephant-shaped rock that was once found at the base of the waterfall.
Throughout the journey, accommodation is organized in comfortable hotels, with breakfast included, and all transfers are made in air-conditioned vehicles. The package includes inner line permits, which you need to visit certain areas so that your travel experience is smooth.
