Overview
The eight days of Ladakh exploration have the most varied sceneries of the region, including the high – altitude deserts valleys, crystal lakes, and far-off border villages to ancient monasteries. This 8 Days 7 Nights Best of Leh Ladakh Tour Package will visit more than usual places and encompass various high altitude lakes and the isolated Changthang plateau to make this a complete journey of one of the most dramatic geographical areas of India.
Leh serves as the base of acclimatization, with the first day of exploration, the views of the sunset at Shanti Stupa, the historic Leh Palace, and the colorful Leh local market. The second day Sangam sightseeing activity presents the site of the merging of the Indus and Zanskar rivers, which are distinct in color contrasts, and presents the opportunity to raft the rivers in the summer season. It then moves on to Magnetic hill which defies the laws of gravity under the illusion of appearance, and Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, where Guru Nanak Dev Ji visited Spituk Monastery, where the wish-fulfilling goddess is housed. The Hall of Fame Memorial is a tribute to soldiers who have sacrificed their lives in India and Pakistan.
The expedition passes through Khardung La pass at 18,300 feet, which is also one of the highest passable roads in the world. Nubra valley although referred to as the Valley of Flowers, is a cold desert land where the Nubra and Shyok rivers cut through the deserts, forming green zones in the otherwise desolate landscapes. The dunes in Hunder have Bactrian camels with two humps, which offer camel safari tours on a snow-covered mountain.
The Turtuk excursion makes this a very special package. This village has been open to tourists since 2010 and annexed by India since the 1971 war. This village is one of the few Balti villages of India along the LOC (Line of Control). The Shyok Valley village still retains its cultural links with Pakistan, with the residents still using the traditional stone-made utensils. The K2 Mountain peak is visible on clear days across the border.
The road to Pangong Lake through Shayok will go through Disket Monastery and then will go through the Shayok River along the beautiful mountain area, crossing Tangtse to Spangmik near the banks of Pangong. The color-changing properties of the lake produce visual effects during the day.
The Tso Moriri trip traverses the vast expanse of lonely stretches of the Changthang plateau, creating one of the remotest aspects of the tour. The way passes through one of the remote settlements known as Chushul near the sensitive borders. Tsomoriri Lake is situated at an altitude of 4,511 meters. It has an area of some 140 square kilometers, and there are shadows in various numbers because of the interaction of the surrounding mountains with the different lights.
The trip back is through the Tsokar Lake, the salt lake system in the Rupsho plateau, which is the habitat of the Changa nomads and home to the rare wildlife species. This road cuts through Polokongka Pass, and then joins the road of Manali-Leh, where the pass of Taglang-la at 17,585 feet is taken. The last destinations are Thiksey monastery; twelve-story building which looks similar to the Potala Palace of Lhasa, and Rencho School, which was featured in movie 3 idiots.
This is a complete package on Ladakh where equal emphasis is given to iconic destinations as well as remote locations which are not much visited using the shorter itineraries. The eight-day timeframe will be enough to acclimatize and to visit the cultural sites of Leh, deserted Nubra, border villages along the LOC, the crystal clear waters of Pangong, high altitude ecosystem of Tsomoriri, and the nomadic culture of Changthang plateau. The extended format allows describing the geographical diversity and cultural multiplicity in Ladakh in more detail.
