Overview
Ladakh’s dramatic landscapes are revealed over seven days in this exhaustive journey that goes beyond the beaten paths in this region and covers remote destinations seldom seen in shorter itineraries. The 7 Days Leh Nubra valley, Pangong lake Tour Package includes high altitude desert valleys, untouched mountain lakes, astronomical observatories and natural hot springs, making this expedition one that offers the perfect balance of iconic attractions and off-the-beaten-path experiences.
Leh sightseeing starts with gradual acclimatization, which is a must at the height of 1,1500 feet. The exploration on the first day includes Shanti Stupa, located at a high altitude providing views of sunset on the horizon of the Indus Valley, and Leh Palace, which is the former site of royalty and older than the Potala Palace in Lhasa. The local market of Leh offers a chance to see daily life and get traditional Ladakhi handicrafts.
The Sangam experience displays the dramatic junction where the Indus and Zanskar rivers join each other and exhibit a clear contrast in coloration of the muddy brown Indus water with the more transparent waters of Zanskar. This Indus Zanskar confluence is a river rafting place during the summer months. This route then proceeds to Magnetic Hill, where optical illusions make it seem as if vehicles roll uphill. Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s visit to Ladakh marks Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, and Spituk Monastery is home to the wish-fulfilling goddess who is known by Hindus as Kali Mata. The Memorial in the Hall of Fame is dedicated to those soldiers who gave their lives in the India-Pakistan conflicts.
The journey crosses Khardung La Pass at 18,380 feet, one of the highest motorable roads in the world with panoramic views of mountains from the K-Top viewpoint. Nubra Valley, also called Valley of Flowers despite its cold desert nature, offers geography that is unique as the Shyok and Nubra rivers form green corridors in the midst of barren lands. The Sand Dunes between Diskit and Hunder Village offer camel rides on double-humped Bactrian camels, creating surreal scenes with snow peaks as a backdrop.
Diskit Monastery anchors the valley through its hilltop location and 106-foot Maitreya Buddha statue which overlooks the valley. The route to Pangong Lake goes through changing terrain, ending at the 134-kilometer-long lake that spills over into Tibet. The lake’s coloring properties create shades from turquoise to deep blue depending on the angle of the sunlight and depth.
The Hanle segment makes this Leh Ladakh extended tour different from shorter packages. This remote village located near the Tibetan border is home to the Indian Astronomical Observatory which contains the Himalayan Chandra Telescope. This 2-meter gamma ray telescope is operated at the highest altitude for such instruments in the world and is the second-largest gamma ray telescope in the world. The clear skies and low light pollution of the location make it ideal for astronomical observations. Hanle Monastery gives this scientifically significant destination a cultural dimension. The Chushul Village route goes past the Chushul War Memorial and crosses Tsaga La at an elevation of 15,200 feet.
The return journey consists of Chumathang Hot Spring, where boiling water is out of the ground, providing bathing opportunities with healing properties. Thiksey Monastery has a twelve-story structure similar to the Potala Palace in Lhasa, famous for its Buddhist art. Rencho School, as featured in the film 3 Idiots, is now popular in photographs.
This seven-day structure enables one to explore different regions of Ladakh – from the cultural sites of Leh to the desert areas of Nubra, the wholesome waters of Pangong, the scientific installations at Hanle, and the geothermal features at Chumathang. The longer time period allows for proper acclimatization and allows reaching some destinations that shorter tours could not reach.
